Weight optimization


In 2014, VM Tarm a/s produced the Tank Trailer of the Future, as the result of a publicly-subsidised development project focused on reducing the tank trailer's tare weight. Read about the Tank Trailer of the Future here.
 
On a daily basis, the Tank Trailer of the Future transports milk for Arla Foods in Denmark and has so far clocked around half a million kilometres. We has it several times to inspection, without any remarks. The tank trailer has proved its viability, even though its dimensions pushed the limits of what we believed to be possible.
 
VM Tarm a/s is continuing to work on developing weight optimisation. We have also begun to producing duplex steel tanks. This high-strength steel enables us to reduce the thickness gauge by ½-1 mm.
 
 

WEIGHT-OPTIMIZED 4-AXLE TRAILER 
Specifications: 32,000 liters, 1 room, 50 mm insulation.
Weight optimizations: Duplex tank and brackets, glass fiber jacket, alloy wheels, weight-optimized undercarriage.
Tare weight: 6.960 kg.
Permitted payload: 31,040 kg.
 

4-AXLE FRONT CARRIAGE
Specifications: 20,000 litres, 4 compartments, 50 mm insulation, milk collection cabin.
Weight optimisations: Tank and brackets in duplex steel, glass fibre cladding, side manlids and aluminium wheel rims.
Tare weight: Tank: 3,088 kg. - Vehicle: 10,170 kg.
Total: 13,258 kg.

2-AXLE TRAILER
Specifications: 15,000 litres, 3 compartments, 50 mm insulation
Weight optimisations: Tank and brackets in duplex steel, glass fibre cladding, side manlids and aluminium wheel rims.
Tare weight: 4,150 kg.
